U.S. Marine Corps at age 17. In 1983 at the MCRD Parris
Island he was taught basic “hand to hand” combat
training. In 1984 he received formal instruction as a
Marine Embassy Guard by the USMC, US State Dept and FBI
to be physically and mentally capable of enduring a
direct counter-intelligence and combat environment,
master interior guard procedures, be proficient with
security, anti-terrorism, and counter espionage tactics.
He received specialized training in law enforcement
techniques, small arms handling and employment,
emergency first aide, force continuum, lethal and
non-lethal application, and entry control procedures.
After his 1st enlistment ended with the Marine Corps in
1986, he had a brief stint as a Deputy Sheriff, after
successfully passing all academy requirements, with the

martial arts.
In 1995 he met Kancho John (Kuma) Farrell teaching
Kyokushin karate in his home. (Springfield, VA).
1995-96 he lived on Camp Schwab, Okinawa, Japan. It was
at this time the US Marine Corps

the LINE System (Linear Infighting

learn & complete the entire system during this time.
While off-duty he cross-trained with a class of students
learning Shorin-Ryu karate.

Sensei
Joaquin S. Pangelinan continuing formal instruction in
Kyokushin karate. Sensei Pangelinan is

California.
In 2010 The
International Kyokushinkai Union honors me with the
rank of San Dan. My dojo – "U.S.A. Kyokushin Karate
Academy – Arizona" is located in Chino Valley, AZ. (100
miles north of Phoenix) we are nestled comfortably in
the mountains of central Arizona, our elevation in 4750
